Let Your Fingers Do the Healing

If you see someone on the MRT or bus holding their fingers in different positions, they might be practicing jin shin jyutsu or JSJ.
It's an ancient art of energy healing that's simple to perform on yourself as well as others.
Mr. Wayne Hackett, 56, a senior JSJ instructor based in Hawaii said: "A common misconception people have is that JSJ is too easy, they can't see how holding a finger can make the body feel better".
JSJ practitioners believe all life is animated by a flow of energy or ki and there are 26 "safety energy locks" along energy pathways in the human body, similar to meridians mentioned in acupressure and acupuncture.
When paths are blocked, the resulting stagnation can disrupt the local area and cause disharmony and disease.
Placing your fingertips over particular energy locks is thought to restore the balance and enhance our body's healing capacity. There is no need to press hard or massage and it can be done over clothing.
The hands act as jumper cables to increase energy flow from one part of the body to the other, explained Mr. Hackett, who has studied JSJ for 27 years and has been teaching it for 15.
Practitioners see JSJ as a valuable complement to conventional healing methods, inducing relaxation and reducing the effects of stress.
Mr. Hackett said: "It is about giving people freedom and responsibility for their own health and well-being.
"It is a cost-effective way for them to maintain their spiritual, mental and bodily health. It also teaches them to listen to their own body, so they know when they need to seek outside help".
Ms Julie Gledhill (above) was introduced to JSJ three years ago. At that time she had been suffering a bad sinus infection for over a month.
She recalled: "They asked me to try holding two points on my head and I sat through the course holding those points. The infection literally went away in that hour".
Ms Gledhill is now a JSJ practitioner and has treated others for migraine, depression, irritable bowel syndrome, back pain and emotional problems.
"It keeps me well and energised and it is good for concentration" she said.
